Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have become an increasingly common sight in both workplaces and in the community for very good reason. They save lives!
This nationally recognised, level 2 regulated course provides training in basic life support and resuscitation, as well as giving candidates the knowledge to use an AED confidently and competently.
Qualification details
The Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator course is valid for three years from the date of successful completion and meets the criteria in England, Wales and Northern Ireland of an RQF level 2 qualification and in Scotland the SCQG level 5 qualification
The course is taught over four hours and includes practical and theoretical activities.

The Legalities and responsibilities of the role for employers and employees, reporting and recording injuries and accidents, Assessing the situation, Dealing with an unresponsive casualty, Resuscitation, Infection control, What is an AED, Defibrillation procedure, Safety measures.
Assessment and certification
The Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator course is constantly assessed by the instructor as well as a multiple-choice question paper exam.
Practical exercises also form part of the assessment process and candidates will be expected to demonstrate competency in the techniques taught.
Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate techniques in a range of positions including standing, sitting and on the floor at ground level!
It should be noted that the HSE and the resuscitation council strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. (put link into that page)
A three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.
Group sizes
There is a maximum group size of 12 learners per instructor.
All of our courses at A&S Safety are orientated towards the workplace and the minimum age of candidates on our courses therefore is 16 as individuals below this age cannot assume any responsibility in the workplace.
It’s also the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the individual is suitable to undertake the role in the workplace.

All candidates on our courses are assured of a warm welcome, expert tutors as well as interacting with fellow candidates on our courses.
We can even help with hotel accommodation if needed.
In-House Courses
Our in-house courses are ideal if you have a number of candidates who need to gain the qualification.
We can come to a suitable venue of your choice and we can tailor the course to suit your particular needs.
We are also flexible enough to be able to fit the delivery of the course in with your work profile including delivery over a number of mornings / evenings/ nights/ weekends / days per week etc.
